There is so much talk about anti-aging out there that our minds are fixed upon fighting what is a natural process. Although we refuse to accept it in every way possible, the body will age…the question is, how will you age.
What I often tell my patients is that the most important thing is not to stop aging but truly to age gracefully and have the best quality of life possible in that aging process. What does that mean? It means being able to enjoy life to the fullest mind, body, and spirit. It means that some things you were doing at 20 you will not be doing at 50, it also means that some things you were doing at 20 you will be doing even better! The key is embracing yourself in each stage of life.
So what are the things that keep vitality in your life during the aging process? To start, making sure you have the very basics in life: Oxygen, Sleep, Water, Sensory Awareness, Physical Activity, Fun, Satisfying work,and Healthy Nutrition. Beyond basics other things such as Emotional Awareness (and healthy emotional expression), Healthy Outlets for Stress, Companionship (platonic and romantic), Passion or purpose in life, and Spiritual foundation also contribute to our continued vitality. Does that sound too simple? Well, it may seem simple, but it’s not always easy. It takes awareness and commitment to self to put these very basic things in place. My suggestion is to pick one at a time and implement it each month until you have achieved a balance of all of these things. In the next few blogs, I will break down each of these with tips on how to get started on this path to aging w/Vitality!
